It can be easy to get caught up in all the noise on Instagram and want to try everything. But at one point, it can start to feel like you’re just throwing random ideas at the wall to see what sticks! More isn’t always better, and in this case, you might be spending a TON of time on Instagram without getting any return on your investment. Here are 3 types of posts that we think small businesses should be posting more of this year!

Remember: the success of posts ebbs and flows, and something that gets 500 likes one day, may get 100 posts on a different day. Don’t get discouraged by the differing numbers! The best strategy is to stay consistent, continue posting, and focus on creating a great community. These ideas are just suggestions, based on our experiences and learnings, to help guide your strategy this year.

Your team

As a business owner, it can be tempting to always SELL. But that’s not always the best strategy. People come to social media to take a break from reality, and being bombarded with product info all the time may drive them away and cause them to unfollow.

Most people love getting to know the team behind the business because it helps them feel connected to your company on another level. Show off the amazing group of people that help bring your vision to life! From simple “meet our team” posts to full-blown interviews for IGTV to showcase who they are, these types of posts are sure to be loved by your followers.

Unedited Content

There has been a big shift to authentic content in the past few years, and it doesn’t look like this is about to change. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t post some of those professional shots you have—by all means share that too! All it means is that you don’t have to be shy about getting a little real on Insta.

It’s not all sunshine and rainbows, and it’s awesome to share the not-picture-perfect experiences with your followers. Feel free to snap a shot on your phone next time the team is unboxing products, get a clip from a happy customer, or get on stories to share a recent mishap. Unedited content will show your followers who you really are, and they will love you (and your brand) for it!

Reels

Instagram has already expressed their interest in becoming a more video-focused app many, many times. A lot of their recent app additions prove this! Think stories, IGTV,  and reels… they are serious about making videos happen!

If you’re already on the reels train and loving it, then keep on riding. If you haven’t thought about it yet, then it is time to get on board! Start playing with this fun feature and trying out different trends. Soon, you’ll understand how you can best use it for your business. Once you get in the groove, Reels content is going to be a hit and Instagram is sure to push it out to a bigger audience than photo-only content.
