On the last blog (which you can check out right here) we spoke about some of our favourite apps to improve your captions on Instagram, but there’s no doubt that photos are a very important aspect of the Insta success formula. It IS a photo app after all!

So, we wanted to share some of our favourite apps that you can download right on your smartphone to help your feed get the perfect feel.

Lightroom

Chances are that if you’ve ever done any research on photography and editing, you’ve come across the name ‘ Lightroom’. Adobe creates an entire host of apps to level up your photo, video, design and web needs. The catch is that the web apps on Adobe Creative Cloud can get pretty pricey, costing at least $13 a month. Heft investment if you’re just dipping your toe into photography or new to Instagram.

What many don’t realize is that the mobile app is FREE. You read that right. If you edit your photos from their mobile app, you get a professional photo editor, from the convenience of your palm, at absolutely no cost. (Well, there are a few features that require an upgrade, but pretty much no cost at all)

Some of our favourite features include Color Mix, where you can edit colours individually, and Dehaze, which will help rescue your pic if you got rainy or dull weather.

VSCO

If you’re still pretty new to the whole editing process, or if you like to keep things a little more simple, VSCO is a great choice.

The free version offers some filters and editing tools, but by investing a few bucks a month (Under $30 for the annual membership) you get over 200 filters. And believe us when we say, you get some much better options for filters than you’ll get directly on Instagram’s app.

Snapseed

If you want an option that gives you the best of both worlds, Snapseed is a popular choice for photo editing! You’ll find useful tools for editing as well as some filter options.

We love the selective brush tool that allows you to brighten or saturate a specific part of the photo.

You can also find some cool presets that you can easily edit. Definitely a nice touch if you want to get some nice effects on your pics.

Lens Distortion

If you like the look of little effects like lens flairs, instead of full-on filters, Lens Distortion is an awesome download!

This app gives you countless options for add-ons, like snow or rain, light hits, and other unique overlays. It’s a great way to spruce up your pics and it’s a lot of fun to mess around with the different effects.

Preview

Last, but DEFINITELY not least, we’re sharing the Preview app. You know how you’re always hearing people talking about a ‘cohesive grid’ and that you have to stay on brand? If you want some help with that, this is the app for you!

If you aren’t already using a scheduling app, check out the free version of Preview. It lets you plan future posts and actually see how they will look in your grid! That way, you can see if the next photo you were thinking about posting looks totally out of place, or if you should post certain things in a different order.

If you want to splurge a bit, for about $9 a month, you can also get some filter packs and some really great analytics reports on your posts, including hashtags analytics!

Now that you have all the tools you need to get your grid looking flawless, check out some of our favourite apps to up your caption game here.
